Probably the best game for the MSX that ever existed! The atmosphere and the looks were so impressive - one could even smell the stuffy air in the catacombs. ;-)
Only many years later I encountered Castlevania for the NES: pathetic, brainless monster-bashing with crude graphics and a funny bleep-bleep-bloop that seemed to be the background music.
Folks, it's a shame Konami didn't keep the gameplay of Vampire Killer for their much adored series!!

Better looking, but not as good as the NES version in playability. The action is slowed down through the addition of having to find keys. There's also no scrolling in this version. The idea to add merchants hidden in walls is, well, strange (especially since the way to get the merchants "talking" is to... well, find out yourself :) )
Sadly, Konami didn't pay much attention to the European users, as the speed is quite unstable in PAL (50hz) mode.
